Dear CAPS Members and Friends;
On behalf of the Board of Directors I would like to invite you to attend the 26th Annual CAPS Training Conference, March 22–24, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Orange County in Garden Grove, California. Last year’s Training Conference in Palm Springs was an outstanding success and we hope to build on that momentum with this year’s conference program.
The hotel is conveniently located one mile from Disneyland Resort and the Anaheim Convention Center. There are numerous restaurants, clubs, and attractions in the immediate vicinity of the hotel which are available to conference attendees.
We will begin the training conference on Thursday evening March 22nd, with our keynote address which will be presented by an Executive Officer of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). The workshops will run all day on Friday March 23rd and a half-day on Saturday March 24th.
The theme this year’s conference is, “Pretrial Services: Staying Relevant In A Realignment Environment”. The workshops will focus on the recently enacted legislation AB109, better known as “Realignment”. We will be provided with an overview of AB109 including a historical perspective of the events leading up to the legislative enactment. In addition, we will learn about the issues and challenges currently being experienced by many of our counties as Realignment is implemented throughout the state. We will hear about the Courts perspective relative to AB109 and be educated on the intake and supervision programs being implemented by the various Probation Departments to address the supervision requirements of the “Realignment Population”. We will wrap up the conference with a number of pretrial program Directors discussing the opportunities and challenges of staying relevant in the Realignment environment.
We will be repeating our successful Silent Auction this year; items will be displayed beginning Thursday afternoon and available for bidding until Saturday morning. We will also be running a 50-50 Lottery with the winner receiving 50% of the pot. Good luck to all.
Early registration will be set up in the Hotel Foyer beginning on Thursday March 22nd from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

TRAINING CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIPS
This year, four (4) Scholarships are available for CAPS members; they include CONFERENCE REGISTRATION, AND ONE NIGHT’S LODGING AT THE HOTEL. The scholarships are available to any member in good standing who has paid their dues for the current year. To apply, please submit a letter stating why you would like to be the scholarship recipient and how you would benefit from the experience. Please include information about your position, your title, and how long you have worked in pretrial services. Preference will be given to those applicants attending their first training conference.

CAPS Luncheon and Annual Meeting - Friday March 23, 2012
Nominations for expiring Board positions will be accepted at the luncheon and annual business meeting. To be nominated, the nominator and the candidate must be CAPS members in good standing.
The Board of Directors has been working diligently to ensure a great training and networking experience for everyone. A complete training agenda, including workshops and presenters, will be available on the CAPS website www.pretrialservicesca.org by Friday, March 2, 2012.
